Multilayer paint refers to a system of two or more layers which gives a substrate protection. Over time these layers can build up and create a fire hazard.
Each layer can affect overall fire performance. Without proper testing such as adhesion, flake resistance, and thickness evaluation , you risk non‑compliance with regulations and potential safety hazards
Through a combination of adhesion tests, flake testing, specialist fire risk surveys, and thickness measurements. These help determine conformity with registration standards like Class 0, A2, B1 and resistance ratings of 30 and 60 minutes
Building Regulations require classifications for internal linings and external walls, based on flame spread. These are Classifications based on EN 13501-01 and vary depending on the risk of fire related to the building.
All surfaces should be reviewed during a Fire Risk Assessment and prior to any redecoration, where there are any doubts on compliance this should be escalated to a coatings specialist for assessment, adhesion and visual condition checks to ensure the coating is not a fire hazard
Yes. After assessing the surface we offer bespoke paint specification services aimed at addressing fire performance, substrate compatibility, and environmental conditions and demands. #FireSafety #Durability #Colour #Equality Act #Sustainability
Absolutely. Our services can include certification and comprehensive documentation to demonstrate compliance under BSA and CDM frameworks as technical design consultants
We specialise in multilayer systems and the fire risk where they have broad paint knowledge. We are independent and work with all manufacturers where they have limited knowledge and access to only their branded products. We offer technical detail, bespoke specs, certification, and ongoing compliance support.
They identify the likelihood of fire happening and it causing harm, EMC identify the hazard posed by the surface. EMC are guided by fire professionals who understand the level of protection needed to safely evacuate a building , EMC then provide that level of protection.
Any Duty Holder - Responsible Person, building owner, facilities manager, fire risk assessor, architect, designer or contractor involved in the painting of surfaces that require compliance to the RRO (Fire Safety) 2005 who does not have the individual competence to understand the risk they may be creating.
How does the process start?
Contact us for a free consultation. Typically you will need review of your documentation and painting history, this will indicate the need for a site survey or not. Any site survey will test combustible substrates, paint layers, assess current condition and compliance, then recommend and implement any updates to specifications or maintenance regimes
